The Sun has struck a deal with Waitrose to become the first red top to join their loyalty scheme.
The MyWaitrose scheme allows loyalty card members to receive the price of their paper from a media partner off the rest of their shopping, when they spend £5 on shopping during the week, and £10 on weekends.
Existing partners of the scheme include The Times, Daily Mail, Telegraph and Guardian, who are all thought to have seen sales in Waitrose double or more.
It was reported that The Sun can expect to see sales climb potentially by in excess of 10,000 per week.
The Sun will become part of the MyWaitrose scheme from 1 June.
Chief Customer Officer, Chris Duncan said “This is an exciting partnership between two of Britain’s best known brands. The Sun is the first title in the popular market to join the MyWaitrose scheme and its addition demonstrates the strength of the paper’s brand.
“The Sun has more ABC1 readers than The Telegraph every day and we’re delighted that they can now get their daily copy as part of this scheme. Joining the loyalty program is another innovative way to reach out to new customers and continue The Sun’s long tradition of being Britain’s best-selling newspaper.”
