Rupert Murdoch, owner of The Adelaide News, Sydney Mirror and The Australian, in Australia buys The News of The World and becomes Managing Director of News of the World Organisation Ltd, his first foray into the British newspaper industry. The first issue of the News of the World, under his ownership is published three days later (the title was first published on October 1 1843).
