The prestigious awards, now in their 35th year, have led the way in recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution made to sport by women at all levels, from elite to grassroots and community-wide.
Nick Greenslade, Deputy Sports Editor, The Sunday Times, said: “Congratulations to all our winners and to those shortlisted in what has been a momentous year for women's sport. Eilish McColgan’s 10,000m race at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham was hailed as one of the defining moments in British distance running history making her our very worthy Sportswoman of the Year. The Lionesses' Euro glory also marked an astonishing moment for women’s sport and will continue to inspire so many young girls into football for years to come.”
Lauren Steadman MBE, British Paralympic athlete and a judge on this year’s panel, said: “Women's sport this year has been exceptional. Exceptional performances, exceptional standards, exceptional competition, and most importantly, exceptional unity which has really showcased what women's sport has to offer. It has inspired generations to raise their game, and encouraged future generations to dare to dream. Congratulations to the winners and those shortlisted, a proud achievement in such a phenomenal year.”
This year’s judging panel included household names Chemmy Alcott (former World Cup alpine ski racer), Ama Agbeze (former England netball captain and Commonwealth Games gold medallist), Rebecca Adlington OBE (World and Olympic champion swimmer), Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE (former England and GB hockey captain and Olympic gold medallist), Natalie Sawyer (co-host of talkSPORT Weekend Sports Breakfast show), Chrissie Wellington OBE (four-time Ironman triathlon world champion), Tanni Grey-Thompson OBE (paralympic and world champion wheelchair racer), Lauren Steadman MBE (British Paralympic athlete), Ellie Simmonds OBE (paralympic and world champion swimmer), Laura Woods (talkSPORT and Sky Sports presenter), and Helen Glover MBE (Olympic and world champion rower).
