talkSPORT will deliver its biggest-ever World Cup coverage across audio, digital and social with wall-to-wall coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar
The world’s biggest sports radio station talkSPORT will be following England and Wales as they head to the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, offering wall-to-wall coverage of the tournament. The award-winning station will be broadcasting every game in the tournament live, with over 600 hours of coverage.
The network has a strong team of award-winning presenters who will be on the ground in Qatar, including Laura Woods, Ally McCoist, Jim White, Simon Jordan and Gabby Agbonlahor. Adrian Durham will drive the comprehensive live coverage along with Natalie Sawyer and Hugh Woozencroft alongside England legend Stuart Pearce, former Wales goalscorer Dean Saunders plus Dean Ashton, Tony Cascarino and Lianne Sanderson. England correspondent Faye Carruthers will be reporting live from the England camp and Laurence Mora will be pitchside for Wales games.
They’ll be joined in the extensive World Cup coverage by legendary presenter Alan Brazil and talkSPORT’s gang of ace ex professionals including Darren Bent, Graeme Souness, Ray Parlour, Martin Keown, Danny Murphy, Jamie O’Hara, Jason Cundy, Alvin Martin, Chris Iwelumo, Darren Ambrose, Micky Gray, Perry Groves, Jermaine Pennant, Carlton Cole - plus current players, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Welsh international Euros hero Hal Robson-Kanu.
The wall-to-wall content will also see the biggest ever talkSPORT commitment to digital coverage with non-stop output on radio, online and social media and video coverage from Qatar. A team of social content creators will be live streaming shows across talkSPORT’s hugely engaged YouTube and Facebook pages for the first time from a major tournament. Influencer Katie Owen will provide engaging short-form content from multiple locations built for TikTok and Instagram.
talkSPORT will offer a variety of podcast options. Much-loved broadcasters Paul Hawksbee and Andy Jacobs will present an exclusive daily podcast, along with the regular favourites, talkSPORT Daily and a daily talkSPORT GameDay special World Cup podcast.
The network’s bold 'Wall-to-Wall' marketing campaign will celebrate this message in classic talkSPORT style. To kick things off, a dedicated wall mural will be painted in Shoreditch featuring key talkSPORT presenters Laura Woods, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist, plus the key players who will light up the tournament in Qatar. A playful hero film will bring this to life, featuring Alan Brazil, Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor in a Banksy-style advert. talkSPORT’s executions across press and digital ads will spread the word that should leave every football fan in no doubt where they need to head for the full wall-to-wall World Cup experience.
In addition, talkSPORT is hosting the ultimate fan experience during the World Cup, taking over a 1,000-capacity venue in London Waterloo to create the talkSPORT Fan Zone. The network will screen every World Cup game live via a match viewing area of 25+ big screens, alongside a talkSPORT Tavern VIP area and outside broadcast hub. The talkSPORT Fan Zone will kick off with the first group game on 20th November and run all the way through to the final on 18th December. Find out where to get tickets here.
England legend Stuart Pearce said: “I’m excited to be at the heart of the action during the World Cup, following England as they go. Having played in a World Cup myself, I can really put myself in the shoes of the players and bring expert analysis to talkSPORT’s listeners.”
Former Wales striker Dean Saunders added: “I’m so proud to be following Wales to Qatar, and taking in every second of the action. There’s nothing like being in the thick of it, and I can’t wait to bring that atmosphere and electricity to the fans watching and listening at home.”
Head of talkSPORT Lee Clayton commented: “Our audience should get ready for the most incredible wall-to-wall reporting, insight and analysis from commentators and pundits across our network. It’s our strongest-ever squad!
“I can’t wait to see Jim White and Simon Jordan breaking stories and inviting the biggest names from the hotbed of Qatar. This World Cup is going to be explosive and we have the best possible team covering every moment on and off the field, delivering their insight and opinion - tune in and you won’t miss a second of the action.”
The talkSPORT network will also be continuing domestic coverage during the World Cup across Women’s Super League, English Football League and FA Cup Second Round, as well as the International Rugby Autumn Nations Series in November. It will also have a host of exclusive games in the English Premier League when the talkSPORT team returns following the World Cup.
