Times Earth

Times Earth, a digital hub for all news about our planet, climate change, sustainability problems, initiatives and solutions, launched on Earth Day 2021. It is a place for Times journalists to report on engaging stories, research and studies from around the world and take a deep dive economic look at sustainability to help readers make better-informed decisions. Times Earth’s themes include climate change, water pollution, nature, green business and sustainable living.

In 2022 and 2023, News UK delivered the Times Earth Summit, bringing together business leaders, politicians and scientists to discuss solutions to the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. The 2023 summit consisted of five sessions, discussing how to generate more clean energy, supply the critical minerals net zero will require, clean up Britain’s rivers, restore nature and speed up the green transition overall.

The Sun’s Green Team

The Sun’s Green Team launched with Green Week in October 2020 with lots of tips on how readers could be more sustainable. The title has published columns and features from leading environmentalists from David Attenborough to Ben Fogle and writers like Jeremy Clarkson have the power to change people’s minds - with Clarkson having openly changed his position on climate change. Stories are reported across every subject area - from the payback on installing solar panels, the best electric cars, to sustainable fashion tips and household recycling advice. In 2021, The Sun won the NMA’s “Making A Difference” award for its Green Week campaign.

Planet Hope Podcast

Planet Hope is a 12-episode podcast from The Times in partnership with Rolex and its Perpetual Planet Initiative. In this series, Adam Vaughan, Environment Editor for The Times and host, asks why our planet is changing so rapidly and meets leading experts from around the world who are trying to change the tide.

Commenting on the series, Adam said: “Planet Hope will bring inspiring and personal stories from forward-thinking scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs who are working to implement sustainable solutions for the most defining issue of our time. Listeners can hear directly from the people who are working across these projects, and its significance in delivering urgent and lasting change.

We’ve been mindful to minimise the environmental impact of this podcast. 9 of the 12 episodes were recorded virtually, requiring no travel at all for The Times’ production team.
