talkSPORT to exclusively broadcast World Matchplay Darts

talkSPORT2 will broadcast full commentary from the Betfred World Matchplay as the station continues its coverage of PDC events.

The deal will see all nine evening sessions of the World Matchplay broadcast live from Blackpool’s Winter Gardens from July 17-25.

talkSPORT2 has previously aired award-nominated coverage from the World Darts Championship over the past four years as well as at the World Matchplay in 2018 – when they broadcast the first live nine-darter on radio, as Gary Anderson achieved the feat.

Commentary of the World Matchplay will be provided by Ian Danter, Mark Wilson, Paul Nicholson and Chris Mason throughout the prestigious event, with reporting from Abigail Davies.

“There’s a great deal of excitement around our return to Blackpool for the Betfred World Matchplay, and having live commentary on talkSPORT 2 will be another great way for fans to follow the event,” said PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter.

“talkSPORT’s previous commentaries from previous events have been hugely popular and I’m sure fans across the UK will enjoy their coverage from the Winter Gardens this year.”

talkSPORT National Radio Controller, Liam Fisher said: “July is shaping up to be a major month of sport on talkSPORT from the Euros final this weekend to the start of The Lions Tests, The Open, plus World Matchplay darts before the Premier League season resumes in August.

“The World Matchplay is such an iconic event, and one that captures the spirit and passion of talkSPORT listeners, so we are delighted to be the audio home of darts once more from the Winter Gardens.”

talkSPORT Commentator, Paul Nicholson said: “The World Matchplay is back in Blackpool and the talkSPORT team will be there to capture all the excitement and the unbeatable darts atmosphere for fans across the country.

“It’s shaping up to be another knockout tournament!”
