News UK and Harper Collins partnered together to host the Whizz-Kidz Kidz Board meeting at The News Building on Friday.
The Kidz Board is made up of a dozen disabled young people who each represent a different area of the UK.
The Kidz Board spent the afternoon in a series of workshops and were given presentations by News UK and Harper Collins.
The Sun’s Associate Head of Showbiz Andy Halls talked about how he launched his career in journalism, what his average day involves and his biggest scoops, including getting his hands on world exclusive footage of Justin Bieber .
Following Andy’s presentation, Harlequin Executive Publisher Lisa Milton led a session with her team talking about what makes a good book, how to chose a cover and the sales, marketing and publicity elements involved in publishing.
The Kidz Board meet four times a year, to make sure kids’ voices are at the heart of decisions the charity makes, and to raise awareness about issues that affect young disabled people.
Earlier this year, Whizz-Kidz was named as the official charity partner of Harper Collins, paving the way for a series of fundraising and work experience placement.
In 2015, Whizz-Kidz was voted by staff from News UK, Dow Jones and Harper Collins as a recipient of the News Corp Giving charity initiative, which involved the charity receiving £10,000 from parent company News Corp.
