London, 20 May 2024: Times Radio, the nation’s Election Station, has signed up one of the most iconic and influential journalists and broadcasters of the modern era, joining a powerhouse roster of presenters as the UK and the US prepare for major elections.
Famous for his incisive and hard-hitting leader interviews, alongside his peerless insight and analysis, Andrew Neil will present a new agenda-setting daily news programme focussing on the UK and US election, with debates, interviews with high-profile politicians and news-makers, and Andrew's must-listen take on the day's political events.
Andrew Neil said: “Western liberal democracy has been tested more in these last years than in living memory. As UK and US citizens prepare to go to the polls, in nations polarised and divided, set against a world riven with instability and contention, my show on Times Radio will look to define the signal from the noise.”
Tim Levell, programme director of Times Radio, added: "Andrew is indelibly associated with elections in the minds of the UK public. There is no one better to turn to for the authoritative take on both the UK and US elections. His interviews will be unmissable. His analysis will be peerless. As Times Radio expands its coverage during the election period, having Andrew Neil at 1pm will make Times Radio the must-listen destination on the dial."
Andrew Neil is recognised as one of the foremost analysts of global political and economic affairs in the reporting world. As a journalist he has edited The Economist and The Sunday Times. He was pivotal to the launch of Sky Television and as a broadcaster he has anchored enormously influential political shows in the US and the UK across decades, and is probably the most-experienced election-watcher on either side of the pond.
Andrew Neil will broadcast his show every Monday to Thursday at 1pm from 9th September. Andrew joins a powerful line-up as Times Radio becomes the nation’s Election Station. From the moment listeners wake up with Aasmah Mir and Stig Abell at Breakfast each morning, there’ll be agenda-setting interviews and debates, exclusive polling and focus groups.
Alongside Times Radio’s political editor Kate McCann, Times Radio draws on the best political reporters and columnists from across The Times and The Sunday Times, including John Pienaar, Hugo Rifkind, Daniel Finkelstein, Ed Vaizey, Ayesha Hazarika, Carole Walker and William Hague.
In the latest round of RAJAR audience listening figures, announced this month, Times Radio posted a reach of 503k with weekly listening hours up 26.7% year-on-year to a record 4.4m. This represents an average of 8.8 hours per listener a week - another record for the station, and a sign of how its influential listeners are tuning in to Times Radio’s quality news coverage for longer than ever before.
Times Radio is available on DAB radio, online, on smart speaker and via the free app.
