The Times announces this year’s CEO Summit
The CEO Summit is held in association with Alix Partners
Thursday 15th June 2023: The Times announces its flagship event, The Times CEO Summit, in association with AlixPartners to be held on Thursday, 22 June, 2023 at The News Building, London.
It has been an extraordinary 12 months since the last Times CEO Summit. A year that added “Trussonomics”, “skimpflation” and “quiet quitting” to the business lexicon has brought fresh challenges for business leaders who were already busy dealing with supply chain disruption and skills shortages.
Richard Fletcher, Business Editor, The Times welcomed the chance to gather an invited audience of FTSE 100/250 CEOs with government ministers, Times commentators and the rising stars from the UK’s fast growth sectors : “Our list of chief executives and chairman registered to attend, reads like a who’s who of UK business and we are delighted to be hosting this annual gathering to discuss the challenges ahead.”
The theme for this year's CEO Summit is Growth: What’s the Plan? Both speakers and the invited audience will be asked for their insights on how businesses can drive growth when the economic landscape remains uncertain. The first panel session of the day hosted by Tracey Boles, deputy business editor, will explore how chief executives should look for growth in an era of higher prices, shrinking margins and squeezed incomes with a line up comprising Jim O’Neill, the economist; Keith Anderson, chief executive of Scottish Power; Priya Lakhani, an artificial intelligence entrepreneur and Kate Bingham, managing partner, SV Health Investors, who famously led Britain’s vaccine taskforce during the pandemic.
The Times CEO Summit will be opened by Robert Thomson, Chief Executive, News Corp, before the event unfolds with interviews with business leaders including Leena Nair, Global CEO, Chanel, Ken Murphy, CEO, Tesco and Brian McNamara, CEO, Haleon along with interviews with Keir Starmer and a leading government minister in conversation with Tony Gallagher, editor, The Times.
In the final panel, Hannah Prevett, deputy editor, Times Enterprise Network, will chat with Baroness Dambisa Moyo, Baroness Martha Lane Fox, president, The British Chambers of Commerce, and Dervilla Mitchell, deputy chair, Arup Group, about the evolving nature of the UK workforce. With job vacancies at 1.12 million, the skills shortage poses a real threat to the UK's growth prospects. With an army of people having left the labour market - in particular migrants and the over 50s - what are the possible solutions? With growing automation and new skills required to adapt, how are companies reskilling their current workforce, finding new talent and getting the long term sick back to work?
