About
News UK
News UK has secured the rights to show video clips of goals and other key moments from Scottish Premiership matches and some Glasgow Rangers matches.
This adds to the growing portfolio of football content which already offers readers of The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times access to clips from all 380 Barclays Premier League matches for the next three seasons and will provide the best moments from England international friendlies and FA Cup ties from 2014.
The first Scottish Premiership action will be available via the newspapers’ websites for fixtures later this month and rolled out to smart phones and tablets later in the season.
This is part of an ongoing strategy to build on the award-winning journalism of our titles by integrating with enhanced and compelling digital content.
It will provide a major boost for the Scottish edition of The Sun - which is Scotland's best-selling daily newspaper, with over 1.7 million copies sold each week.
News UK secured the deal from international media rights company ‘MP & Silva’ and readers will enjoy near-live clips of goals and other key moments along with great commentary, analysis and opinion from our renowned journalists and other respected football pundits.
News UK Chief Executive, Mike Darcey said: “Winning these rights will further strengthen our offering to readers, and ensure the football coverage from our titles is second to none. Award-winning analysis alongside exclusive video of the best action is a compelling combination. Our investment in these rights reflects our determination to secure a sustainable future for our world class journalism.”
Andrea Radrizzani, Group CEO MP & Silva, said: “We are delighted to partner with News UK and the Scottish Professional Football League to promote the Scottish Premiership matches in a domestic digital platform. As part of our strategy for increased visibility for Scottish football both at home and around the world, we look forward to seeing results of improved popularity and viewership of the league in the UK through the clips access of The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.”
