London, UK, Friday 12th May 2023: The Sunday Times, powered by WorkL, has revealed the Best Places to Work in the UK for 2023. This nationwide workplace survey honours and celebrates Britain's top employers and acknowledges the best workplaces for women, LGBTQIA+ community, disabled employees, ethnic minorities, younger and older workers, and wellbeing.
PizzaExpress, Fat Face, and David Lloyd Leisure were among the top 10 best employers in the 'very big organisation' category, while Octopus Energy and Churchill Retirement Living were ranked as some of the best 'big' employers. EasyJet Holidays and Better Placed were celebrated in the medium and small organisation categories, respectively.
Bristol based energy supplier OVO was voted Best Place to Work for women - offering shared parental leave, unlimited compassionate leave, and menopause support, while the Goring hotel in London was named best for employees aged 55+. Arcadis topped the list for ethnic minorities, while Thomas Franks was named the best for LGBTQIA+ employees.
Some new workplace practices have emerged, the survey has revealed, including allowing employees to bring their pets into the office. At pet food retailer tails.com, 57 office dogs were registered - averaging six employees per four-legged friend.
Working a four-day week also proved popular. Staff at Brighton skincare manufacturer 5 Squirrels have been getting “100 percent of their salary for 80 percent of their time in return for 100 percent productivity,” they told The Sunday Times.
The Sunday Times partnered with employee-experience platform WorkL to deliver fresh insights into what makes a Best Place to Work. Using 35 questions from WorkL's employee engagement survey, the awards most accurately monitored employee engagement and wellbeing in the workplace.
Chris Longcroft, EVP Publisher, The Times and The Sunday Times, said: “The Sunday Times Best Places to Work awards recognise companies that create a happier and fulfilling working environment for all, by fostering engagement from their teams, yielding great business and performance in return. Wishing all of those companies who made the grade this year many congratulations.”
Lord Mark Price, Founder of WorkL, said: “Many Congratulations to this year's winners of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work, powered by WorkL. You should be very proud of your achievement of being recognised as one of the very best places to work in the UK. I have little doubt that these awards will help with both retention of your existing employees and drive recruitment of the best candidates into your organisations in the year ahead.”
